10 Reasons To Switch To Solar Energy

10 Reasons To Switch To Solar Energy
Updated: 2 February 2022

Solar Energy has become more and more popular in recent years. In fact, around 900,000 British homes have Solar Panels Installed. So why are they so popular? Read our list of reasons to switch to Solar Energy to find out!

Reasons To Go Solar

1. Solar Energy Helps You Save Money On Your Energy Bills

Solar Energy is now the cheapest electricity in history. As it decreases your reliance on the National Grid, it guarantees to lower your energy bill. In some cases up to 70%! You are essentially removing the supplier from the equation, and as nobody owns the sun yet you can’t pay tax on it.

2. Going Solar Will Help Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Solar energy is the most abundant energy resource on earth. A Solar PV System takes advantage of the sun’s energy to power homes and even businesses. As the electricity is harvested directly from the sun, it is both renewable and sustainable. As a type of renewable energy, generation produces no greenhouse gas emissions, compared to fossil fuels. Fossil fuels create pollutants, which contribute to global warming. Whereas, fossils fuels will eventually run out, the sun will always shine. The Energy Saving Trust stated that a typical house with a Solar PV System installed, could save the UK around 1.3 to 1.6 tonnes of carbon a year! Simply, it’s green clean energy.

3. Solar Energy Is Better for your health

It has been reported, that more than 8 million people around the world die each year as a result of breathing polluted air. That is almost 1 in 5. Burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil, create green house gases which are poisonous to inhale. These pollutants are especially dangerous to those who already have respiratory conditions. On the contrary, Solar energy is a clean energy. This means it doesn’t produce harmful toxins, and so is not only good for the environment but also good for our health.

4. Solar Technology Is Advancing Rapidly

Due to the increase in demand, and the advancement in the technology, Solar PV prices have dropped globally by 82% and are continuing to fall. That means Solar has never been more affordable and accessible.

The Solar industry has come a long way. When the Government incentives were first introduced for solar it mainly focused on arrays of Solar panels, however battery storage has since advanced. Battery storage solutions now mean you can store the energy produced by your Solar panels during the day, to be used whenever your home demands it. This revolutionary technology, means you can essentially live off-grid, and be completely energy independent.

5. Installing Solar Panels Will Increase your EPC rating

Solar PV Panels are a great way of boosting your EPC rating. By installing Solar PV panels your EPC rating will increase to a minimum of a D or above. Having a high EPC rating makes your home more desirable to purchase, as your home is more energy efficient, meaning lower bills.

Some people worry that having Solar panels installed could push the price of their property down. However, a more efficient home generating its own energy can be more attractive to buyers. After all, who wouldn’t want lower electricity bills?

6. Solar Energy Is Addictive

Solar Energy has a strong following of tech fanatics. It’s kind of like the tattoo bug, it draws you in and you become obsessed. There are many groups, forums and instagram profiles that you can follow to keep up to date with all the latest within the industry, to make friends, and to seek advice. If anything, Solar eventually becomes a hobby!

Another thing worth considering is the social impact going green has. Being environmentally conscious is now “fashionable”. From a business point of view, the idea of going solar may attract more customers. As the UK are becoming more environmentally conscious with whom they do business with. Going green is a big win for the environment, as well as your followers.

7. Solar Energy And Electric Vehicles Go Hand In Hand

With Boris Johnson announcing a ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, the move towards electric vehicles is inevitable. Luckily electric mobility and solar energy go hand in hand. It makes sense to install a home EV Charger, as it means you can charge your car at convenient hours. However, without Solar panels, your electricity bills will rise and the carbon you will be saving on the roads will be used at home instead. By charging your Electric car from your Solar PV system, you can save even more money, whilst further reducing your carbon footprint.

8. Solar PV Systems Are An Investment You Can Get Paid For

In January 2020, the Government introduced the Smart Export Guarantee Scheme to pay households for installing Solar Panels. The SEG scheme, essentially pays a household for the amount of energy they export back to the National Grid. This also means that you are essentially providing the grid and other households around the UK with renewable energy. How cool!

In order to benefit from such a scheme, you must sign up to an export tariff. Each Export Tariff pays different rates for your generated Solar Energy. Examples of Export Tariffs, include Bulb who offer 5.38p per kWh, and Octopus Energy who has a fixed rate of 5.5p per kWh.

9. Switching To Solar Energy Makes You More Energy Independent

By installing your own Solar Panels and Solar Batteries, you are able to have an off-grid system. This means you are no longer reliant on the National Grid for energy, and are instead self-sufficient. This means when energy prices rise, as they continue to do, this will no longer impact you. This also means in the case of a power outage, you have the ability to provide your own electricity!

10. Solar Energy creates jobs and helps your local economy

The move towards a sustainable Britain, not only benefits the environment but also the economy. The Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s 10 point plan, aims to create 250,000 “green-collar” jobs across the UK. By installing Solar you are supporting these jobs, and the UK’s push towards net zero. After all, there is no I in Team. At Deege Solar we are always looking to expand our Green Team. Check out our green careers if you are looking to join the solar revolution.
