Agile Octopus
Agile Octopus is a 100% green energy tariff offered by Octopus Energy (Since 2018), which allows customers to take advantage of “plunge pricing”. Now what does that mean exactly? Well, when more electricity is generated than consumed, energy prices fall, sometimes even below zero. This is because the National Grid is looking for suppliers to take that energy off the grid. What makes Agile Octopus unlike any other energy tariff, is the fact it takes advantage of dynamic energy pricing. This means that you will no longer pay a set rate for your electricity. Agile Octopus will alert its customers every time energy prices fall, so that they can shift their energy usage accordingly. For example, charging your electric vehicle during that particular time, or putting the dishwasher on.
By tracking wholesale energy prices every half hour, and as a customer monitoring this, you can simply adapt your lifestyle around getting cheaper electricity. There is a “peak” period between 4pm and 7pm where the rates are at their highest, so where possible customers should shift their energy usage outside of this period.

How does this effect the Renewable industry
If you own Battery Storage for your Solar Panels, or an Electric Vehicle, Agile Octopus is the perfect tariff. This is because, when the prices plunge, you can use these storage devices to take excess energy off the grid and effectively be paid to do so. This way you can store green electricity at a cheap rate, and use it when your home demands so.
Smart devices such as the Zappi EV Charger have an online portal that allows you to track the Agile Octopus prices, and automatically charge your electric car, or fill your battery storage accordingly. This can all be programmed by adding the API key into your smart devices.

- Over the last 12 months, unit prices dropped below 2p/kWh 31 times.
- You can take control and responsibility of your own energy usage.

Octopus Go
Octopus go is a future-proof smart tariff, designed especially so that electric drivers can charge up on affordable green energy. The rise of electric mobility is inevitable, and since a ban on new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 has been announced, finding an economical way to charge is essential. That’s where Octopus Go comes in.
Octopus Go works directly with any Smart EV Charger, for example the Zappi, to charge your car between 00:30 – 04:30 every night on cheap charge rates of 5p/kWh. This keeps your fuel cost around 1p per mile. That’s around a tenth of the price of filling up a traditional car. All you have to do is simply remember to plug-in your electric vehicle before bed. Octopus Go’s “peak” rate cost (hours outside 00:30 – 04:30) varies depending on your location in the UK, however it hovers around 14p/kWh mark, which is also a competitive flat rate. The Octopus Go tariff also work wells for those who have Solar batteries or storage heaters installed, as these can also be charged overnight at the cheaper rate.
